Tayberry Medana - Pruned to approximately 80cm tall in a 2 litre pot

The Tayberry Medana is a cross between the blackberry and the raspberry and produces good crops of early reddish-purple berries from mid-Summer. Reasonably vigorous rambling branches need permanent support.

  • Fruit is excellent for dessert and fruity jams and freezing.
  • Self-fertile.
  • Spacing: Plant 1.5 metres (5ft) apart in rows 2 metres (6ft) apart
  • Position: Well drained but moist, fertile soil in full sun or light shade

 

Planting

Soak the root-ball before planting. Plant in hole twice the diameter of the pot. Mix an organic soil improver and general fertiliser with the infill soil. Water regularly until estsablished.

After Care

Fruit is produced on previous year's shoots. Tie in new shoots, these will flower and fruit in the second year. Cut away all fruiting canes after harvest and replace them with new vigorous shoots. Cut back weak and damaged shoots in Autumn. In Spring apply a general fertiliser.
