How do I know is your site is secure when making payment?

This is a good question, and one which applies to all websites on the internet when making payments or entering personal information.

Use the following pointers below to make sure the site when you are shopping on is secure and your information is safe.

  • In the internet browerser when you are entering personal information or card details the website address should always start with https:// (the important bit is the s in https). This means that the page in encrypted and secure. Please note normal webpages ie this page you are reading, product pages etc are not encryped and will still show http:// which is ok.
  • Look for the gold padlock icon. This is normally located in the internet browser bar where the website address is (Internet Explorer used this) or in the corner of the webpage (bottom right if using Mozilla Firefox browser). There are many browsers, but all good ones will have the padlock icon somewhere.
  • Is the company established, why not look into the company. If the site is non-genuine a quick search on google will normally comfirm this.
  • Check sellers’ privacy policy and returns policy
  • Look for evidence of a physical address and telephone contact details.
  • Don’t be fooled by a padlock that appears on the web page itself. It is easy for conmen to copy the image of a padlock. You need to look for one that is in the window frame of the browser itself.
